One of the strategies for job creation deployed by the current leadership of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) under the stewardship of Dr. Nasir Mohammed Ladan Argungu, focuses on women and youth in the various programmes and schemes of the Directorate.
I had an opportunity to interact with two participants of the skills acquisition training of NDE in Bauchi, Rabi’atu Moh’d Awal and Ahmed Rabi’atu. Narrating their experience in their own words, “we actually appreciated the programme because we gained a lot of experience. According to the trainees, we use to see computer as a complicated machine that is difficult to operate, but within a short period of time in the course of their training, they realized that the computer was not that difficult.
The training according to them opened their eyes to the magic of graphic designs, book publishing, Newspaper planning, magazines etc.
Rabi’atu stated thus, “I had always had the zeal and passion to be a computer literate because everything in the world is now about technology. Thank God my dream has come true.”
