National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is to train members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association across the nation. The Director General, NDE, Dr. Nasir Mohammed Ladan disclosed this while briefing the Acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed and his Management Team at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the DG, POWA is an umbrella body for wives of members of the largest single organization in Nigeria- the Nigeria Police whose activities covers orphans, children and other dependents of police officers.To this end he added that it is vital for the NDE to provide training opportunity to members of the association to enable them actively embark on gainful economic activities. Dr. Ladan used the platform of the visit to highlight theprogrammes and Schemes of the Directorate such as Basic-National Open Apprenticeship (B-NOAS)through which he said POWA members can receive training in Cosmetology and other Technical and domestic trades and also beresettled with starter packs. According to him the Small Scale Enterprise is another programme of the directorate where activities like Basic Business Training are carried 0ut.Women and Youth acquire skills on how to start and run their businesses successfully. Ladan said that, under the SSE department, people are provided with Micro-Enterprise Enhancement Loans (MEES) for Micro-businesses. He further stated that, the special Public Works Department provide opportunities for transient Jobs and other Job creation instruments like the Graduate Attachment programme and Graduate Coaching scheme. But within the domain of the Rural Employment Promotion, the department trains youth in modern agricultural practices like poultry, fishery e. t. c.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu appreciated the Director General and his team for the visit which he said is very timely. He expressed the belief that POWA members will key into the various training initiatives of the NDE. Already mechanisms that will ensure the participation of POWA members in the training have been put in place.
The Director General was accompanied by some members of the NDE Executive Management including Mr. Cyril OffiongAni, (D-SPW), Engr. Yakubu U. mani (D-VSD), Mal. Isa Abdu (D-HR), Dr. Michael Mbata (D-REP), Alh. Aliyu L. Ayodele (D-F&A)and other Management staff.
